Greetings from the Classroom! Welcome to 2021-22 School Year
Hello everyone!! Greetings from the classroom. 🙂 It feels so good to be back at school. It is wonderful to see all of our returning students and a joy to meet our new ones. We have a delightful group. Hooray!! I am very excited about the school year ahead of us. The energy in the classroom has been amazing. The children seem very happy to be back at school, playing with friends, and engaging with materials on the shelf. Seeing many of the students return to school hungry for learning has been inspiring. I feel very lucky to be their guide along this learning journey for our coming school year.Â
Get Well Soon Ms. Lory!
We have certainly been missing Ms. Lory while getting the ball rolling. Luckily, we have had great subs who have been helping our classroom settle into their new routines. Everyone is settling in nicely.Â
Background on Ms. Eva
When reflecting on our virtual parents night, I realized I forgot to introduce myself. Goodness! Most of you know me and I do have a bio posted on our website, but I still wanted to share a little bit about my background here.Â
This is my 3rd year as the lead teacher at Little Hoku, and my 9th year working in a Montessori classroom. I spent 3 years as an assistant teacher at Montessori School of Maui, then 3 years as the lead teacher at Hale O Keiki. Before pursuing a career path in Montessori I worked as a drama teacher for a variety of children’s theatre programs, here on Maui and in Seattle, WA. I am originally from Florida but spent my formative years living in Germany. I have lived in Maui for the past 15 years.Â
I am very passionate about developing an amazing preschool environment that promotes creative, individual thinking, a love of learning, and facilitates meaningful play. I draw from my theatre background to keep the children’s engagement and joy in their work.Â
I love continuing my own learning as well. I continue to stay fresh with the Montessori pedagogy, while also discovering ways to support play alongside more academic activities. I have my Master’s Education in Montessori Integrative Learning with an emphasis on learning about schools from Reggio Emilia.Â
Outside of school, I keep very busy with my (almost) 3-year-old, Phoebe, and partner, Michael. We love family Sunday mornings at the beach. I also enjoy cooking and trying new recipes (when time allows). I have big dreams of creating a gorgeous garden one day. Hopefully in the not-so-distant future. 🙂 Oh, and I love to dance!Â

At the Beginning
At the beginning is a good place to be.
What will the day bring for you and me?
New songs, new friends, new things to do.
At the beginning is a good place to be.
